Vegetarianism

I've lied for this question to many people about why I've taken to vegetarian food, or rather say stopped non vegetarian food. Indeed its so peculiar of me who used to argue that non vegetarian food is more protein rich and more suitable for appettite. I've tasted almost all kinds of non vegetarian food, well don't think I've tasted cockroaches and frogs. Let me be more specific ... chicken, mutton, fish, turkey, prawns, crabs, beef, shark and a thing they call kaadai in Thamizh. But why did I become a veggie ??

People think Its sin to kill animals !! for some its against their religion !! some just don't like the smell of it !! some say Its for spiritual development !!

What do I think ?

I think ..... Well its a long story.

Long time ago, so long I even forgot where I read this article, I read about a doctor who was serving in some remote part of Africa. He writes about one of the incidents that happened to him about how he escaped death from a Lion and what were his feelings in those minutes. He says that he was being carried away by a Lion and he was totally consious but didn't feel the slightest pain. "I know I'm going to be devoured by the Lion, but I did not attempt to escape from the jaws of the Lion. I was rescued by a group of villagers. After I recovered from this incident I started analyzing the psychology associated. I saw a rat in the jaws of the cat, once it is in the jaws of the cat it never attempts to escape from it though Its totally consious. A sense of Analgesia."

He wrote a paper on what happens at near death experiences. The paper says that at near death experiences the body automatically generates anesthetics. This reaction is caused by fear. It's a sudden reflex to the emergency situations. In this state the body lies in a dormant state, the mind doesn't work, you become actionless.

But what has this above story gotta do with being a vegetarian ?

Well its like this when we kill animals for their meat a panic signal is raised in the brain of the animals and instantaneously enzymes, antibodies, anesthetics are generated in their body and circulated throughout their body. These enzymes remain in the food we take and when these small quantities of these enzymes reach our blood, our body they cause slight amount of drowsiness, inactivity of mind. This amount of inactivity is so small that we can't easily detect it by external look.

But this effect is only very minor ? Why should we avoid Non Vegetarian food totally ?

The mind works in a very subtle manner. The more you tune it the better it gets. There are many people who have stretched its limit and still are not sure that more cannot be possible. Mostly the power of mind is still to be explored, say for example Hypnotism, Its a very powerful science, but there are very few people who know what the real power of hypnotism is.

ok back to the topic

People who are accustomed to nonveg food do not feel the difference immediately. The blood takes longer period to get totally replaced. Its also necessary that our body be free of other intoxicants like nicotin and alcohol.

So what is the final conclusion ?

People who think they need to control the mind, who think they shlould develop spiritually should think about taking vegetarian food.

Whatelse ?

There is more to it. Time will answer those questions.

I'm a carnivor! hehehe...

I think moderation is the best. Balancing between non-veg and veg. Maybe take Veg, 5 days a week, and non-veg for the rest. Fish is a good substitute for red meat. Chicken is harmless if you eat it once in a while.

...does this involve a girl...? Sara!

I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants

Nice post, nice thoughts. I am not pure veggie, but, I like eating vegetables more that eggs/chicken which I eat occasionaly.

Scary story about the lion attack incident and its very true, the victims usually don't resist as they know they are going to die.!

Narayanan I don't think its because of the face that we realize we are going to die, whereas I think its a kind of reflex action generated by the brain. An adaptive mechanism. A boon where you don't feel the pain. Where there is no action and feelings. You are dumb. So probably when you eat nonveg you are given to non action, procrastination, nonworking of mind, feeble working of the intellect and more ...

I've myself experienced these kinda no pain situation.

fever - take ur time da machi

First time to your blog and a very interesting post. I 've heard of many reasons for being veggie. I am veggie a veggie too for various reasons.

I've seen many people become veggie, but then remaining so for them has always been a challenge. I wish you all the best for the same.

and I thought eating too much meat built up cholestrol..which might affect the heart at some point. But I see drowsiness is much more harmful....kalakkite miltry. I guess I know why I sleep so much nowadays!

ok.. i don't know about all these stories, but i vowed i won't eat non-veg food anywhere outside india, after my trip to hyderabad, because the food was sooo good.
( i might eat non-veg maybe just at home) but not anywhere else.

I know this is quite off topic, but it is a kind of vegetarianism...selective vegetarianism.

cheers.

The idea of food that we eat or the clothes we wear is simple...It is basically "mind over matter"...
