Sarr! U got spammed! just delete it.

By the way, this is an excellent question. Maybe u can post it at the 2050 site as well.

'Who am I?' is a timeless question. The answer might lie in the fact that we can identify or realize that were concious. Its like waking up in the morning and realizing that youre you. You know ur alive, you know ur surroundings and you know youre name.

In a more religious aspect, 'you' are just another soul, a human born to complete the circle of creation.

In scientific terms, 'you' or 'I' lies in the fact of conciousness. Science havent found an answer to the conciousness. But if you ask Einstein or any other hard thinker, they the answeer for 'you' or 'i' will ve the fact that you know that youre alive and youre part of the world. Its the key to conciousness. If you look up at the sky and realize that the universe is big and there are billions of stars there and there might be other life there, then you know who you are. Maybe.

People say an Idle mind is a devil's workshop, but destiny worked in a different way for me. 1 year of life without job, I read books such as Bhagavat Gita and started understanding things which differ from the conventional way of thinking. True I'm a true Existentialist today !

This question takes us deep into the real meaning of devotion. Thats why I wanted to post this question.

@tamizhan, knowing a concept is different from realizing it. which one of it is you.

Saravana - :) - Anyone who wants to find the answer to this question should first go to Tiruvanamalai - and then they will know the answer is within themselves ;)

@badri is there any doubt in that :P

@arjuna, I've been to Tiruvannamalai long time back. I'm eager to visit that place now. Wish I get that golden chance very soon. I liked the description (about me) in your page. If you like post it as a comment here.

@uma, I'm trying to figure out who I'm beyond my Ego.

'Who am I?' The physical body, composed of the seven dhatus, is not 'I'. The five sense organs… and the five types of perception known through the senses… are not 'I'. The five parts of the body which act… and their functions… are not 'I'. The five vital airs such as prana, which perform the five vital functions such as respiration, are not 'I'. Even the mind that thinks is not 'I'. In the state of deep sleep vishaya vasanas remain. Devoid of sensory knowledge and activity, even this [state] is not 'I'. After negating all of the above as 'not I, not I', the knowledge that alone remains is itself 'I'. The nature of knowledge is sat-chit-ananda [being-consciousness-bliss]. - Ramana Maharishi

Identity is something that the illusory world gives you. There is no such thing as I in the realm of the spirit. It is like we are all actors in a play. We will have different parts in different plays
in different times. The idea of I is something everybody buys into!
This is something necessary in the material world. Again day to day happenings doesn't make any sense either. With a limited intellect, we try to find answers. Growth is certain when we begin to ask questions. How do we know that we are not in the middle of a dream?
When we wake up will the realities be different? Again the word 'we' doesn't make any sense either! Illusion is the term that makes sense.
