Anniyan - A Review

A Movie on the concept of Dharma is long anticipated. In an Era where Movies are all about Glamorous posters, which does nothing but spoil the mindset of people around, Here comes a movie with society consciousness. This society conciousness is out of people's dictionary in today's world. Shankar gave a shot by reviewing the concept to the core. I appreciate his efforts in bringing interest towards the ancient Indian puranas (Garuda Puranam).

Here goes the synopsis of the movie:

Ramanujam aka Ambi is a conformist, works as a small time lawyer and perfectly goes by the rules, dislikes even the small disorders either be at his home or in the society. His incapability to do anything to change the society and his knowledge of Dharma, changes him into Anniyan (Read as Yamadharma Raja) even without his knowledge (A Dual character and more psychic vibrations). Anniyan goes about punishing the people as per the punishments given in Hell.

The movie opens with a serene temple surrounding and Sri Rama bhajan in the background, A typical Iyengar tradition. Ambi makes his living my handling petty cases, helpless in most of the cases. His search for Truthfulness takes him to anniyan.com website, a site run by his dual. One could but just marvel at the Anniyan character, which has been given the due respect. Isn't Vikram supposed to be a Multi-Character, Vikram fits into his role as Remo except his so called American accent

Just wondering if this film would have made more sense if it had been named Yaman instead of Anniyan. Look at this scene where Vikram says, Naan avan illada, Yaman (I'm not him, I'm Yama). He becomes the punisher itself, Invincible, Death personified. Who possibly could stop all powerful death. This justifies his character.

This movie gives you more reason to live as a perfectionist. Yes more reasons than Indian, Though Shankar could have thought of Concrete examples like Indian. The reason for Vikram getting distorted into a perfectionist is well justified.

This movie has also an amazing description of Love. Love that is more sincere to the society compared to the other Indian movies. Vikram in his incapability to get the attention of Nandini, becomes Remo. I appreciate Shankar coz The movie introduces Love not just for the sake of glamour and Sex !!, but goes ahead to say What is Love and distinguishes from Sexual Infatuation.

To tell something about vikram's acting ..... He Rocks. No one could have done it better. I could just marvel at how he alternates between Ambi and Anniyan at the police station.

This movie is a must see ...

Well..Come June end and it is the time for appraisals. Itz the preparation/submission of the focal review documents that is keeping me away from writing an eloborate comments on ur review (this process is so intense in Sun.. it was so much simpler in Infy..the PM does it all..and all that we need to do is to train our guns during the appraisal discussion) ...Lemme finish my documents...wud give u a detail comment on ur review...

@Sathya I say Its worth a watch for Vikram's performance.

@Fever In the initial stages of the movie I thought Shankar has taken social awareness to the next level (Eternal ..) He could have concluded the movie the same way. I don't know hw many people would accept it ... I can make out a point from this movie "Work for the sake of others, development of the society not just for your selfish interests" He could have made this prominent, would have been better.
