Evidence of the company's increasing concern over open source can be found in the methods it used to try and convince Munich city council to continue using its software back in March 2003.

Back then, Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer arrived in the German city to personally plead with the mayor not to switch to Linux after discovering that the city was unwilling to spend $36m to upgrade to the latest versions of Windows and Office. In addition, Microsoft offered a 90 per cent discount and an offer of millions of dollars worth of training and support services. Despite this, Munich opted for an open source solution instead.

If Microsoft can give 90 % discount for a government agency as rich as Germany, why doesn't it work out a plan to give cheaper solutions for countries like India to make Windows economic for the masses. It might be a worthy product for an economy like US, but are software prices reasonable and affordable for the third world countries.

To make technology global, why don't we all start supporting Open software. Start using Linux, Open Office, Firefox and a host of other utilities. The developers will follow as soon as they discover more and more people making the open switch. We could make atleast the basic software that runs on our computer free.

One more happy news for the Internet enthusiasists is the release of Google Talk. I'm just wondering what happens when Google integrates all its products Google talk, Hello, Picassa, Google earth, Gmail, Groups, Blogger, Orkut, Desktop search and ya don't forget Google CHEESE

உனக்கு புரிவதில்லை ஏனடா

This post was a comment here. I thought my poetry came out well, so I'm posting here too

Jappanil Thalaivar

Found this stuff posted by a Japanese Blogger about Thalai and this snack item:-

Rajni in Japanese Garam Masala packet
Speaking of Indian movies, "Muthu" is the most popular for Japanese people. It was made in 1995 in India. Have you seen it? This is a story about a servant named Muthu. Maharaja who is Muthu's boss falls for a girl Langa* who is an actress of a road company, but she falls for Muthu. It's a love story, but it's not only that. Highlights are scenes of dancing, singing and fighting. They sing songs and dance, when they are happy. They sing songs and dance, when they are sad.And they sing songs and dance, even if they have no reasons. In fact, they are singing and dancing in the better part of the movie. Also, you mustn't miss the scene of chasing by the horse and cart. This movie was a big hit in India, and also in Japan. Actually I love it.

Thalai

Recently I found a Muthu's photo at a convenience store. It was on a package of snacks. This is a snack named "Garam masala" that is on the confectionery maker Tohato.Usually, I don't really eat snacks, but I found myself buying it. 42 kinds of spices are used to make it,so taste is really spicy. After I ate it, I unconsciously felt like seeing the "Muthu" again. If you have a chance, I recommend to see the "Muthu" and eat it.

My Computer

Things kept me busy and I was unable to concentrate on a new post though I think I have a lot to write. Finally my computer is up and running. I should really boast about the fact that its a freaking game machine. I can't believe the reality and speed I get in NFS Underground. The spare time I get at home, I'm spending playing NFS.

I saw this movie Swades on DVD today, this reminded me of Sathya and badly felt like speaking to her and only found that outgoing is disconnected in my cell phone. About the movie I didn't find anything special, It was just another movie.(let me conform this after I watch the last quarter :D)

I've already taken an analog photograph of my computer. I'll post it as soon as I scan it.

GP's initiative is worth a write here. A blog that people will endure till 2050. take a look at it here. I'm proud to be a contributor for this blog. look forward for my posts.

Assorted Calvin Philosophies

Life's too darn short to waste time trying to please every meddlesome moron who's got an idea how I ought to be.

The more you know, the harder it is to take decisive action. Once you become informed, you start seeing complexities and shades of gray. You realize that nothing is as clear and simple as it first appears. Ultimately knowledge is paralyzing. Being a man of action, I can t afford to take that risk

Today at school, I tried to decide whether to cheat on my test or not. I wondered, is it better to do the right thing and fail ... or is it better to do the wrong thing and succeed? On the one hand, undeserved success gives no satisfaction ... but on the other hand, well-deserved failure gives no satisfaction either. Of course, most everybody cheats some time or other. People always bend the rules if they think they can get away with it ... then again, that doesn't justify my cheating. Then I thought, look, cheating on one little test isn't such a big deal. It doesn't hurt anyone ... but then I wondered if I was just rationalizing my unwillingness to accept the consequence of not studying. Still, in the real world, people care about success, not principles ... then again, maybe that's why the world is in such a mess. What a dilemma!

You know how Einstein got bad grades as a kid? Well, mine are even worse!

Calvin to Susie:I think girls and bugs must have a dim perception that nature has played a cruel joke on them, but they lack the intellect to comprehend the magnitude of it.

What assurance do I have that your parenting isn't screwing me up?

If ignorance is bliss, this lesson would appear to be a deliberate attempt on your part to deprive me of happiness, the pursuit of which is my unalienable right according to the declaration of independence. I therefore assert my patriotic prerogative not to know this material. I'll be out in the playground.

I wish I was dead....well no, not really. I wish everyone ELSE was dead.

If something is so complicated that u cant explain it in 10 seconds, then it's probably not worth knowing anyway

I am a misunderstood genius ... no one thinks that I am genius.

what is the importance of the erie canal? A: In the cosmic sense, probably nill.

Make Thiruvasakam PUBLIC DOMAIN

I know this one is similar to a previous post. I posted this on a forum and thought I would host it on my blog also. Also ppl HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY.

Tere's the post. they were discussing that the producers of TIS created it in a financial struggle.

You see all the movies and albums are created in financial crisis, does it make you think about it and stop posting the MP3s.

There are things that belong to the masses, Natural resources. No one can claim ownership of these and start making money. It amounts to the greatest sin. similarly no one can claim ownership of Thiruvasakam and start making money out of it.

One thing I've noticed is, the producers have started enjoying and puffed with arrogance flowing from the money.

There are songs made for making money and there are songs to please God. Out of this we make the mistake of downloading the former and stopping the later from reaching the masses. How is it justified?

Its just the ignorance of the producers.

What about the people who don't have the money to buy it and still eager to listen to the songs? We are only cheating them.

A request to the producers here ... please don't let go the good karma of producing the album go waste.

Make the songs PUBLIC DOMAIN and release the MP3s.

Who wants to use Microsoft's Biased network

In answer to Google's Earth Microsoft has come up with one more poor service, in fact they can match it only with Google maps not earth. Who could possibly compare with the search giant Google in terms of information. The fact these people have removed Apple campus from the network makes this site evidently biased.

Could you make information more reliable Microsoft ? Could microsoft give a competition to Google ? C'mon man these people have all the damn money in the world !! Why cant they be a useful and resourceful company like Google.

Is Pirating Thiruvasakam wrong

Ilayaraja has come up with a great album Thiruvasakam in Symphony. It's been a great hype in the industry. There are various people who have come up with different comments. Sujatha's introduction is noteworthy. Sujatha also asks that this album may not be downloaded as MP3. Do these people want to own even the spiritual texts, make money out of our glorious tradition. I feel this album should be universal, It should be for the masses, rather than selling it for money. This kind of spiritual albums should defenitely be made by people, In that Ilayaraja has done a great help to the society by creating this album. Definitely Ilayaraja would get more fame, more money, greater heaven ... can it be sold for making mere money.

Any art makes complete meaning only when dedicated to GOD. This should be done without expecting anything in return. A sacrifice to the greater society, to please GOD, for the glory of GOD.

3 Column Blog

I'm seriously considering to change my template to a 3 column one. I see that the side bar content keeps growing, making it real nasty scrolling down. If I have a 3 column one It could be neatly sorted out.

I really got bugged up looking at the dumb CSS code, finally decided to download a blogger template from the internet. Where the hell do I get a nice 3 column blogger template. Wherever I go people have just tweaked the basic templates available on blogger. I have a long way to go before I can put up a real working 3 column version.

Moreover my template is not a moveable type, Its fixed which means it can't adapt itself to various monitor resolutions, the viewable width of the blog remains the same number of pixels.

Anyone else have similar problems with templates.
